Update: Migration Tasmania now only accepting ROIs from candidates with a Gold Pass, with program closing on 16 June 2025
As we approach the end of the 2024-25 program year, Australia’s state and territory governments are now making arrangements to close their skilled nominated visa programs. For instance, Victoria’s 2024-25 State Nominated Skilled Visa Program closed to new Registrations of Interest (ROI) at 4:00pm today, Tuesday 29 April 2025.
Migration Tasmania has now announced that from Monday 19 May 2025, 5:00pm onward, they will only be accepting Registrations of Interest (ROIs) from candidates who are allocated a Gold Pass (i.e. candidates who have a skills assessment and eligible employment to a critical or prioritised role. Migration Tasmania’s 2024-25 program year will then close on Monday 16 June 2025 at 5:00pm, with no further ROIs being accepted until the 2025-26 program year commences. Further information regarding the 2025-26 program will be published on the Migration Tasmania website when it becomes available.
How do I get a Gold Pass for visa nomination by Migration Tasmania?
To be allocated a Gold Pass, you must have a skills assessment and directly related employment for at least the past 3 months included in the critical roles list.
I have already submitted an ROI to Migration Tasmania - what happens if I am not invited in the 2024-25 program year?
Migration Tasmania has confirmed that ROIs that are not invited to apply for nomination before the end of the program will continue to be held in the Application Gateway and considered for an invitation to apply for nomination when the 2025-26 program opens.
What about the other state and territory governments’ 2024-25 programs?
So far, only Victoria’s 2024-25 State Nominated Skilled Visa Program has been formally closed to new ROIs.
We anticipate that Western Australia may also only resume inviting candidates to apply for Subclass 190 or Subclass 491 visa nomination in the new 2025-26 program year, with their most recent invitation round on 8 May 2025 focusing on a small amount of candidates in building and construction occupations.
